What is Coverage?
Quick answer
Coverage is how many different buying situations you appear in when people ask AI, the breadth of your presence. Put simply: the more "rooms" your brand shows up in, the better.
Buyers don't ask one question. They ask dozens, each phrased their own way and each a slightly different moment of intent, near me, best for X, cheapest, most trusted, alternatives to a competitor. Coverage is the count of how many of those rooms you're in at all.
It's one of the two axes of the GEO map, sitting alongside Depth. Where depth is about winning a room, coverage is about being in it. The coverage problem is a problem of absence: whole clusters of buyer questions where the AI answers without you, because nothing you've built points the engine toward you there. Fixing it means creating presence where there's currently a blank.
You read coverage as a fraction: in how many of your category's buyer-question clusters do you appear, out of the total that matter? A brand with broad coverage is in the conversation across the category. A brand with narrow coverage might dominate one topic and vanish everywhere else. Neither number tells the whole story alone, which is exactly why coverage is only half the map.

Frequently asked
How is coverage different from Share of Model?
Coverage is how many questions you appear in; Share of Model is how much of the answer you own when you do. Breadth versus depth.
Is more coverage always better?
Not by itself. Wide but shallow (present everywhere, chosen nowhere) loses to dominating a focused set.
Why not just chase coverage?
Because presence without depth is a vanity number; being named rarely converts unless you're also the one recommended.
